Recently Overheard...

This morning while finishing up our Bible time, we went around the table with everyone saying a short sentence of what they're thankful for. I started, then Ashton, who was thankful for family and food, Indy, who was thankful for "all the people", then Levi, who was thankful for golf clubs. I kid you not. He said, "Dear Jesus, Thank you for my golf clubs...and all the golf clubs you gave me." Too funny. Then, Indy says, "All he cares about is golf!" I agreed and we moved on. It was funny.

Know Any Good Books??

I'm working on a few books right now. Four, I think. Anyway, I was wondering if you have a favorite book you think would be good for me to read? I like fiction, but not "romance" or anything scary. I like John Grisham a lot. And, I like Christian fiction. I also like "self-help" books on kids, parenting, getting/keeping my Christian walk on the right path, health, finances, and most any other topic. It's not like I'm lacking for books, because I've got about 4 more I want to start, but refuse to until I finish these 4! lol But, it's always good to have a list ready to go. SO, if you know of or have recently read a great book or two, leave me a comment and share the title(s) with me. I'd appreciate you telling me the general topic of the book, too, since you can't always judge a book by its cover. lol Thanks for sharing!! :-)

Where I Belong...

I was born and raised in a big city. I still live in a big city. But, I don't feel like I belong there. I love the quiet of the outdoors. I love the woods and would be so happy living in the middle of nowhere.

Of course, I think I'd miss the 5 minute drive to Publix, McDonald's, and the bank or the 10 minute drive to the mall and Target if I lived in the middle of nowhere. I think I've been in the city too long and I'm not sure I'd do very well that far out, even if I dream of it. I guess you never know til you really try it, huh?

It got me to thinking. Where do I belong? It's almost as if I don't belong anywhere. That made me think more and realize that I do belong somewhere, it's just not here. I mean here on Earth. I belong in the eternal kingdom and that's my real home. I don't think I'll be truly settled until I reach my real home someday. I would venture to say that when I get where I'm going, I'll feel perfectly at home. I can't wait! :-)

Bessie

About 3 weeks ago, Savannah brought home a dog...yes, another one...big surprise, eh? Anyway, it's a one year old female half black lab, half mastiff that belonged to a friend of hers, from school. The family has a mom, a 16 year old son, and a 6 year old son. They are living in a rented house and they have 5 dogs. They have a female black lab and a male mastiff (not the daddy), who are grown. The neighbor's mastiff is the daddy. Anyway, the lab had a few puppies and they gave away all but 3 last year. Bessie was the runt, so they kept her, along with two of her siblings. Well, apparently, the landlord is planning to move his grandmother down here and wants to put her in the house they're renting, so they are soon moving to an apartment. Obviously, you can't have 5 dogs (big dogs!) in an apartment, so they're slowly giving away the puppies. Bessie was the first to go. Savannah's friend told her about the puppies and she stopped by the house and brought Bessie home for us to see. We balked at yet another dog, but Nicky really liked her, so we've kept her. And, man, she is the best dog! She is house-trained and listens very well, fetches, comes to her name, sits, does not jump, does not bark too much, does not chew on stuff, gets into and stays in the kennel with no problem and is great with the kids. FINALLY! A decent dog!! Not a runaway with emotional, mental, or behavioral problems! You think I jest. Anyway, she's been great and we're really enjoying her.

We had to get rid of the remaining "New Kid" (the puppies we found last year), because she was very erratic and began growling at the boys. Plus, she was attacking our old basset hound, Elvis. So, we put her in a shelter. Having Bessie has been great for the kids. Even though her breeding is large, she's not really that big. She's only about maybe 2 feet tall at the back. I guess because she was the runt. But, she's really sweet and very submissive to us.

Now guess what? The friend wants us to take Bessie's brother, who is a brindle and looks more like a mastiff and is much larger! His name is Mac, as in Big Mac. lol We haven't seen him yet, but we're anticipating seeing him later this week or next. We'll see. We'll see, too, if Nicky likes him. I imagine he will since he loves mastiffs. I just hope he behaves as well as Bessie does.

I know it seems like we have a lot of dogs, but in fact, we don't. Savannah is a dog magnet and all the strays or runaways seem to find her (or our house!!), which is why we always have new dogs. Mostly, we find homes for them, but sometimes, if we can't find a home, we'll put them in a shelter. I don't like doing that, but we can't keep them all. Of course, Savannah thinks we should. lol Believe me, when she moves out someday, there won't be any more of this bringing in strays! But, as for now, we have a new doggie, with another *maybe* on the way. I'll let you know.

Hi Everyone! Welcome to the new and improved....well, eventually anyway....The Buggy Crew! I'm so excited about all the new gadgets I'll be able to use now! Since we're still doing school and we already had our spring break when my mom was here, I probably won't be able to do a lot of playing with it until after testing, which is the second week of May. Man, already?? Boy, this year has gone quickly! So, I guess for my first official post, and since it is Monday, I will post my menu for this week.

Sunday - Ham & Potatoes Au Gratin

Monday - Turkey Breast, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce

Tuesday - Swiss Steak

Wednesday - Kielbasa

Thursday - Eggplant Parmesan

Friday - Country Skillet Supper

Saturday - Pot Pies & rice

Country Skillet Supper

1 lb. ground beef

1 med. onion, chopped

1/8 tsp. garlic

1 can cream of mushroom soup

1 can beef broth

1/2 tsp. thyme

1-14 oz. can diced tomatoes

1 sm. yellow squash, sliced

1 1/2 c. uncooked corkscrew pasta

Cook beef, onion, & garlic in skillet until browned. Pour off fat. Add soup, broth, thyme, tomatoes, & squash. Heat to a boil. Sitr in pasta. Cook over low heat 15 min. or til done.

* We don't have this one very often, but it's nice every now and then. It's really easy, though, right?
