Fair Entries

The kids always enter projects into the fair when it comes around each spring. Here they show off their hard work.

Levi entered a t-shirt, model car, painted glass vase, and flower decoration. He placed very well on all of it! This was actually the first year Levi was eligible to enter, so he was very proud. Indy entered a t-shirt, model tank, clay eagle, Fourth of July decoration, painted glass bowl, and popsicle stick tank. He placed well, too.

This is the popsicle stick tank he made. I thought he was going to try to build a 3D tank, but when I wasn't looking, this is how he did it. What a great idea and it came out so well! I love the clouds, glued-on grass and rocks, and coloring on the tank. So creative!
Savannah entered a pair of her old sneaker she'd decorated with markers, which went into a recyled clothing category, and a painted glass platter. She graffiti'd the platter with sharpie markers. It looked great!
Ashton entered some stuff, too, but I didn't get a picture of her and her stuff. They all had fun making their projects, finding out how they placed, and getting the money they earned!

Landscape Entry

Savannah's FFA group at school decided to enter the landscape design competition at the fair this year. Unfortunately, they had only a couple weeks to prepare since they didn't know about the deadlines. But, they still did a great job, especially for such short notice. They did a feng shwa (or however you spell it) theme. Don't ask me anything about it, just look it up online. Anyway, here's some pictures of them setting it up and the finished project.

Here, the kids are setting it up, with Levi's help. More setting up. In the foreground, Ashton and Gina are desperately trying to get the fountain to work. It never did.
The finished product. None of the students could be there the night of the judging, so Savannah was the group's representative. Here she is, just before the judging. The landscape looked great and was very original.

Here she is explaining the theme to the judges and answering their questions. We don't know how the team placed, but they didn't win. Thankfully, the judges gave Savannah many hints for next year's entry, on how to obtain plants and decorations from local nurseries. That will come in very handy, as this year the group bought everything themselves.

It was a lot of fun for the students and they are looking forward to next year's competition!

The Case of the Coupon Ninja

In the last month, my grocery coupons have disappeared twice at BJ's, somewhere between my car and the check out. I pick them up as I get out of the car and somehow, by the time I get to the ckeck out, they're gone. Actually, they're missing before the check out, but I don't notice it til I am checking out. So where do they go??? Truth be known, I think there's a Coupon Ninja in BJ's! I think she's there, watching.....watching. Then, when I turn around, she steals my coupons right out of my basket!!! I keep on the lookout for a suspicious-looking older lady (Don't ask my why, it's just how I picture her.) who's too close by....or checking out my buggy.....or following me, but alas, I never see her. She's sure stealthy! I think I'll have a talk with BJ's staff and inform them of the intruder.....oh wait. Here's my coupons, right here in my car where I left them. Never mind.
