It's Dynamite!

Tonight, the boys were watching America's Funniest Videos, which they often do because they think it's a hoot, and an interesting video came on. They were watching this video and I'm standing behind them watching them watch the video. I wanted to see their reaction and see if they figured anything out or if I was going to have to face a barrage of questions at the end. It was a video a mom had taped of her two sons, about the same ages as my boys. They were in their back yard and the older one was holding a clean, unused "feminine hygiene product that has a string" across his flat palm, with the string dangling off the side. The mom asked the boys what that was. Here's the exchange:

Mom: What is that?
Boy: It's dynamite.
Mom: It is?
Boy: Yeah.
Mom: Where did you find it?
Boy: Over there, by the fence, on the ground.
Mom: Was it in anything?
Boy: Yeah, it was in some kind of wrapper.
Mom: Oh. Well, what do you think we should do with it?
Boy: (After thinking for a second...) Give it to the police.
Mom: Yeah? Well, maybe we should put it away now so no one gets hurt.

Now, first, I must say, I can't believe that mom could have that whole conversation without even cracking a smile. It was hilarious! The kid was so concerned about the dynamite. So, after the video is over, the scene pans to the audience who were all laughing and clapping. I'm thinking, "Oh boy. What are the boys thinking? What are they going to ask me? Man, I hope I don't have to start explaining things." etc. About that time, Levi pipes up and says, "That's not dynamite, Dummy. That's a candle!" I about busted out laughing. It was sooo funny and Indy didn't even disagree with him!! They're so cute! Such innocence. Too bad it doesn't last longer.

The Case of the Coupon Ninja

In the last month, my grocery coupons have disappeared twice at BJ's, somewhere between my car and the check out. I pick them up as I get out of the car and somehow, by the time I get to the ckeck out, they're gone. Actually, they're missing before the check out, but I don't notice it til I am checking out. So where do they go??? Truth be known, I think there's a Coupon Ninja in BJ's! I think she's there, watching.....watching. Then, when I turn around, she steals my coupons right out of my basket!!! I keep on the lookout for a suspicious-looking older lady (Don't ask my why, it's just how I picture her.) who's too close by....or checking out my buggy.....or following me, but alas, I never see her. She's sure stealthy! I think I'll have a talk with BJ's staff and inform them of the intruder.....oh wait. Here's my coupons, right here in my car where I left them. Never mind.

Recently Overheard...

This conversation is disturbing on many levels...though it is funny.

Indy: I can't believe Levi licked my dirty toe.

Me: What?? That's gross! Why did he do that?

Indy: I don't know. He wanted to.

Me: And you let him??

Indy: Yes. He wanted to.

Me: So if he wanted to jump off a bridge you'd let him? And, not tell him "No"?

Indy: Well, how high is the bridge?

**Apparently, the previous night, Indy had his feet hanging over the end of the top bunk, over Levi's head on the lower bunk. So, Levi told Indy he was going to lick Indy's feet. Indy did say no, but then Levi licked Indy's toe. Ewwww.... Actually, thank goodness, they'd had baths so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. But, I must say, as much as Levi puts things in his mouth...yes, still (!!)...at least he's got a good, built-up immune system!! lol

Recently Overheard...

Tuesday, while driving, I heard a local radio personality say this: "Well, we started Fall just about half an hour ago, at 5:19 pm and there is a chill in the air. It's only about 90 degrees today." I thought this was so funny! And, sadly, so true. lol

I thought this was such a funny picture! Indy has this violin (Thanks, Lori and Daniel!) and since Nicky played violin in school, he's going to teach Indy how to play. This weekend, Nicky fixed it all up by replacing the strings, tuning it and replacing a missing part. Then, he rosened the bow and strings and let Indy have at it. He taught Indy how to hold the bow and violin and how to only play one string at a time, but otherwise, let him just play with it. Indy loved it! But, notice the baseball hat and batting glove. He was ready to go to baseball. I just thought it was so cute with him playing the violin in all his baseball gear! Two different worlds collide! lol

Fun Stuff!

I know I've been MIA, but I'm here now. First, we've been sick this week with 3 different things around here...yuck! Savannah and Levi had a stomach flu thing, Indy had a fever going, and Ashton had a bad cold. Nicky and I have had a little of the stomach flu, but not enough to really consider ourselves "sick", just feeling yucky. Thank goodness. I always say I can handle when the kids are sick and I can handle when I'm sick, but when the kids and I are both sick, it really stinks. That's the hardest thing for me. But, thankfully, this time, I avoided really being sick.

And, besides all that, I've been diligently working on cleaning out my back room. It's slow-going, but it's going.

Last week the boys went to VBS and had a ball. I'm glad they got to go. Did I tell you that last time? I don't remember, but I forgot to check what I wrote before. Oh well.

So, here's what's going on here the last two days....

Yesterday, Indy was in the house playing and I knew it, Levi was out back and Savannah had taken the dogs for a walk. When she came in, she said, "Levi's out back screaming." I said, "He is?" About that time, Indy started giggling. I looked at him and asked if he'd put Levi in the dog kennel. He said, "No," and kept giggling. We headed out back to find him and this is what we found. Apparently, Indy had gotten into my newly cleaned (thankfully!) garbage can to dig out a toy I had put in there and when he got out, Levi climbed in, but couldn't get out. He called for Indy to help, but Indy went inside and started playing. The little bugger!! We laughed so hard and I ran to get the camera, of course! I'm such a bad mom...lol. He just stood there, watching while I took photos. He's so tolerant of his mother and her camera! lol Anyway, he finally said, "Stop taking pictures and get me out!" We cracked up and finally, Savannah helped him climb out. Poor guy.

And, the big news today is.......(drumroll, please....)

Savannah got her restricted driver's license today! She is sooo proud and excited and wants to go driving...anywhere!!

Right after she got it, we headed over the zoo for a few minutes since we've been stuck at home all stinkin' week. But, when we got home, she wanted to drive around the neighborhood to practice. We practiced for an hour. lol I'm gonna have to practice with her a lot in the next few weeks so she can help with the driving to NC when we go next month. Yay!

Ashton: Ok

Levi: And, I'm going to be the eater!! (Said with arms upraised and an aire of victory. lol)

While at the convention, I bought each of my children this t-shirt with different colors:

In case you don't get it, the classic argument against homeschooling is that the kids don't get the socialization needed to grow them into "proper" adults (as opposed to say their peer group at school). However, the truth is that homeschoolers socialize waaaay too much, and not just with their own age group. They are out in the community interacting with people from every age group, thus, I believe, making a better socialized child than those who are mostly exposed to their own peer group. (No offense to those of you with kids in school, as this is just my belief. And, hey, I was in school my whole life, too. )
